She graduated from Mimar Sinan University Faculty of Fine Arts Department of Traditional Turkish Arts Book binding and Restoration and earned MA degree in Book binding department of same university.

Serra Güney Özkan has carried out applied and theoretical performances upon restoration of Western book bindings in British Library and Malta Center for Restoration Valetta and served as an instructor in book binding and restoration courses within Caferağa Madrasa Turkish Culture Service Foundation in 2005.

She gave lesson of one-week period within the scope of Montefiascone Project on Ottoman Book Binding Art in 2008 and has been going on her works in personal atelier since 2003.
